Reportage, 2022
Night Ferry
The ferry leaves at ten and arrives at seven. In between, a crew of thirty keeps a small, bright town awake over black water.
I booked a cabin for fourteen nights and asked for no special access. Most of the pictures happened in corridors: a cook on a cigarette break, a night auditor counting coins, a deckhand watching a lighthouse he has passed a thousand times.
Night changes what a workplace is. The passengers sleep, the rules loosen, and the people left over talk to each other in a way they never do by day.
Jonas, night auditor
“Nobody wants to see us. That is the job: be the light that is simply on.”
